The tragic news of the plane crash resulting in the death of Malawi‘s Vice President Saulos Chilima, along with nine other passengers, has shocked the nation.
President Lazarus Chakwera announced the devastating news on Tuesday, following the discovery of the aircraft’s wreckage. The plane went missing after failing to land at Mzuzu International Airport, which is approximately 380 km (240 miles) north of the capital, Lilongwe.
President Chakwera expressed deep sorrow over the loss, emphasizing Chilima’s qualities as “a good man, a devoted father and husband, and a patriotic citizen who served his country with distinction.” Chilima, aged 51, had recently returned to Malawi after attending the Korea-Africa Summit in Seoul.
