EXPOSED Aphungu Turning Chilanga Mulilo Into A Nuisance, No Longer Traditional But Business – Cries Lusaka Young Lady

A Young woman will name Jane for fear of victimization, has cried out after she termed her Chilanga Mulilo as a nuisance after it turned out bad by the Aphungu instead of a beautiful memorable event it was supposed be.

The Chilanga Mulilo is organized by the women in the Bride’s family, it’s like a buffet of some sort, where the groom and his family have the opportunity to ‘taste’ the different delicacies his wife-to-be will be expected to cook for him. Though this is a Bemba tribe traditional ceremony as another step in the marriage Dowry. Chilanga Mulilo has spread to other tribes of Zambia as well.

What surprised Jane though, when she expected to be helped on how she will keep her house as the new-wife-to be, turned out to be ritual like ceremony where some Aphungus started undressing to a point of being completely n@ked & demanded money at every clothing they were removing.

” it seemed as though they were just milking us money, every step costed not less than K200, & I could not move unless money was thrown on the ground for them to pick…. I was also being stepped on as I sat, kicking me while the Aphungus danced…” she lamented

By tradition, the Aphungus are the ones to collect money thrown on the ground for bride which some of it makes it to their personal hand bags.

Jane wondered how undressing & kicking would apply to anything in her matrimonial home, for all she wanted was to present the delicacies to her family to be. Needless to say, she was dragged to present herself when it was her family who was supposed to do the honors.

With the overgrowing demand of Chilanga Mulilo by almost every tribe on the planet of Zambia, it is likely that some people have taken advantage of this new trend to bag themselves some cash & do stuffs that do not apply to the good values & morals one should have before they take on their own homes.

We advise that the necessary look into this matter before it falls out of hand & we start to see our sisters being turned to something we do not want to see
