Namibia Mourns -President Hage Geingob dies aged 82
Namibia Mourns President Hage Geingob, aged 82,who has passed away, as confirmed by his office. His death comes less than three weeks after it was revealed that he would undergo cancer treatment.
Geingob died at Lady Pohamba Hospital in Windhoek, Namibia’s capital, surrounded by his family. Acting President Nangolo Mbumba expressed deep sorrow, describing Geingob as a distinguished servant, liberation icon, and key architect of Namibia’s constitution.
He urged the nation to remain calm as the government handles necessary arrangements and protocols. Last month, Geingob’s office announced his cancer treatment after the discovery of cancerous cells during routine medical tests.
Details about his diagnosis were not disclosed, but he continued his presidential duties. Plans were made for Geingob to seek medical care in the United States and return to Namibia on February 2.
Geingob, who also served as prime minister for 12 years, had a history of health issues, including brain surgery in 2013 and surviving prostate cancer. Last year, he underwent aortic surgery in South Africa, further indicating his ongoing health challenges.
