Social Media Influencer Mutale Mwanza Arrested
Zambian social media influencer Mutale Mwanza, 37, has been arrested on allegations of defamation and harassment under the Cyber Security and Cyber Crimes Act. The charges stem from an incident in which Mwanza allegedly posted insulting and defamatory remarks about Daisy Lufumpa, a resident of Chamba Valley, on November 8, 2024.
According to Police Spokesperson Rae Hamoonga, the complaint was lodged by Ms. Lufumpa on November 11, 2024. The post allegedly suggested false and damaging claims about Lufumpa, accompanied by other libelous statements.
Mwanza, who has since been granted police bond, is set to appear in court soon to face the charges. The case highlights the growing importance of responsible communication on social media platforms and the enforcement of Zambia’s cybercrime laws.
