Zambian launch Sininga votele gulugufe “Yo Maps” na Chile alipo campaign

Zambian music star Yo Maps has come under criticism from sections of social media after referring to some of his fans as “Kambwangas,” a remark that has sparked widespread debate online.

The backlash comes at a time when Yo Maps is among the nominees at the Kwacha Music Awards, an event that has already generated controversy after several artists publicly questioned aspects of the nomination process and categories.

Following the latest online discussion, some social media users have begun encouraging others to support fellow nominee Chile One MrZambia, arguing that he has maintained a more humble public image. These views reflect opinions expressed by some fans online and do not necessarily represent the broader fan base.

The conversation has also reignited debate surrounding Yo Maps’ wife, Kidist Kifle, after comments she reportedly made following an invitation from the Zed Podcast. According to publicly circulating statements, she indicated that anyone wishing to feature Yo Maps on the show would need to pay K30,000.

The discussion intensified further after Yo Maps reportedly responded by saying he earns more than that amount through YouTube, a statement that some social media users interpreted as dismissive toward fans.

As criticism continues online, some users have suggested that the controversy could influence voting in the ongoing Kwacha Music Awards. However, there is no evidence at this stage that the online reactions will affect the final results.
